Sabrina Bryan: A Cheetah Girls Star

Sabrina Bryan was one of the original Cheetah Girls. Named Reba Sabrina Hinojos when she was born September 16, 1984, she is an American singer, actress, author, songwriter, dancer and fashion designer.

In August 2003, Bryan starred as Dorinda in the original Disney Channel movie "The Cheetah Girls," which broke ratings records as the most popular Disney Channel movie in history. The accompanying soundtrack sold two million copies and went double platinum.

In 2005, the Cheetah Girls released their first album, "Cheetah-licious Christmas," and toured the United States to promote the album.

The Disney Channel sequel, "The Cheetah Girls 2," was released in August 2006, breaking additional movie-rating records and beating premiere ratings of "High School Musical." The sequel's soundtrack and national tour were also wildly successful.

In September 2007, the Cheetah Girls released their official debut studio album, "TCG."

"The Cheetah Girls: One World," a third Disney Channel movie, came out in August 2008. The group's One World tour lasted from October 2008 to December 2008. Shortly after the tour, the Cheetah Girls disbanded so that the girls could pursue solo projects.

Bryan is also known for her appearance on the fifth season of "Dancing With the Stars." She and Mark Ballas, her dancing partner, were favored to win. However, the romantically linked couple was voted off the show in week six. She performed with the "Dancing with the Stars" U.S. tour in 2007.

Sabrina Bryan has also released an exercise DVD, "Byou," and is a Healthy Kids Challenge spokesperson. In November 2009, she was working with Kiely Williams, another former Cheetah Girl, on a talk show which has been described as "The View" for young people.

Airbrushed Magazine Photos of Babies Spark Debate

Some magazine editors admit to airbrushing photos of babies, but say that the changes are minimal. Critics call the practice

Do you think babies' photos should be airbrushed in magazines? Credit: Getty Images

Critics are outraged that some parenting magazines admit to airbrushing images of babies that run on their covers, but industry insiders say that almost every photograph in a magazine is retouched.

The hubbub started when a BBC documentary, My Supermodel Baby, revealed that the publication Practical Parenting and Pregnancy retouched a photograph of 5-month-old baby model Hadley Corbett. According to The Daily Telegraph, the magazine's casting director, who was not named, told filmmakers that the child's image was airbrushed: "We lightened his eyes and his general skin tone, smoothed out any blotches and the creases on his arms. But we want it to look natural."

Hadley's mom, Esther Corbett, tells the Telegraph that she was neither surprised nor offended that her child's image was altered. "You kind of know that they do it because if you look at the front cover of magazines, most of the images don't look really real," she says. "But it didn't put me off."

Plenty of other people are put off, however, and some say that the practice is "shocking." Jo Swinson, a U.K. political leader, campaigns against airbrushing in magazines. "People will be appalled that a magazine would not think images of beautiful healthy babies are alright as they are and instead have to conform to some standard," she tells the Telegraph. "The idea that babies must look more perfect – that they can't have creases in their skin – shows the obsession with a particular ideal. Where does this end?"

"You will have parents thinking, my baby isn't attractive enough, how do I make my baby more attractive?" she says.

Industry insiders who have worked with children in media say that retouching photographs -- of everything and everyone -- is standard operating procedure at most publications and is in no way sinister. A friend who has a long resume working with children's publications tells me that the goal is to improve the likeness by adjusting the color, lighting and yes, getting rid of drool or flyaway hairs.

With photo-editing software and services readily available today, plenty of parents are doing the same thing with their private snapshots. I'm not above editing out the chocolate smears on my kids' faces to get the perfect holiday card, and I don't think I'm alone.

Jill Schulz, daughter of "Peanuts" creator Charles M. Schulz, is a busy woman.

She helps manage the massive "Peanuts" empire, especially Woodstock Ice Productions, drawing on her career as a professional ice skater. She also directs and choreographs the "All Wheels Xtreme" sports entertainment shows and still finds time for her husband, Aaron, and their two children, Kylie, 11, and Tyler, 7. She took time out of her day to chat with ParentDish about her dad, his legacy and the Peanuts 60th Anniversary Photo Look-A-Like contest.

ParentDish: I'm sure you've been asked this 100 times, but what's it like to be the daughter of a legend?

Jill Schulz:
I always say that he's the only dad I grew up with, so to me he was always a dad first. I learned a lot from my dad. His philosophy on working hard and enjoying what you do, and enjoying the process. We grew up in Northern California, so we didn't grow up in a sort of celebrity Beverly Hills-esque lifestyle. My parents were from Minnesota, so we were all fairly "Plain Jane." We just grew up in a regular "Brady Bunch"-style house in the country.

Noah Cyrus: Actress

Noah Lindsey Cyrus, born January 8, 2000, is the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus and younger sister of Miley Cyrus. At age 3 she appeared in six episodes of the television show "Doc" and made guest appearances in two episodes of Disney's "The Emperor's New School." She was a background dancer in "Hannah Montana: The Movie" (starring her sister, Miley) and has had small roles in Disney's original series "Hannah Montana."

In 2009, Noah Cyrus, then 9, made heads turn when she showed up to Jamie Lee Curtis' Halloween party in what some called a dominatrix-style vampire costume. Though many publications that cater to a young audience refused to publish the photo, Dlisted called for Billy Ray Cyrus to take responsibility for his daughter's apparel.

Jude Law's New Baby Makes Her First Appearance

Jude Law's baby daughter Sophia has had her first taste of what her life will be like - she nabbed the front cover of a magazine at the tender age of one month.

Sophia's mother, model Samantha Burke, reckons the baby looks like her Hollywood star father.

She says the baby has Jude's "pout."

The 25-year-old model got pregnant during a "fling" with Jude after they met at a nightclub.

Samantha has also been telling Hello! magazine about their first encounter.

She said: "I instantly knew who he was, but he seemed really funny - he was cracking jokes with people and he included me in that. The next thing I knew I was on the pavement outside, being twirled around - it was a lot of fun. Following that initial meeting, Jude and I went out several times. He was a lot of fun to be around, always making me laugh."

Miley Cyrus' 9-Year-old Little Sis Gets Halloween All Wrong

When we saw this photo of Noah Cyrus, teen sensation Miley Cyrus' 9-year-old little sis, in an extremely sexualized Halloween getup, we just gasped.

Dlisted, who published the photo, calls for a slap on papa Billy Ray Cyrus' wrists.

Little Cyrus vamped it up for Jamie Lee Curtis' Halloween party -- Curtis was dressed as Mother Nature, according to Dlisted -- but sadly, this grade-schooler turned heads for all the wrong reasons.

How Can I Avoid Giving My Baby a Name That Will Get Too Trendy?

Dear Name Lady:

We have a very common last name, so we don't want to choose a name for our baby girl that is too common. We've ruled out the current top 25 names. But there are a lot of names that we like (e.g., Annabelle and Eva) that are in the top 100s now and seem to be rising in popularity. Do you have any suggestions -- either of specific names or general trends to look out for -- on how to avoid choosing a name that will top of the charts in a few years?

- Jane

A lot of parents today suffer from "name acrophobia" -- the fear that their favorite baby name will climb to the dizzying top of the popularity charts. Is there any surefire way to avoid picking the next Jacob or Emma?

School Says No to Yearbook Photo of Gay Girl in Tux

Ceara Sturgis, 17, just wanted to be comfortable, so the gay teen donned a tux for her traditional senior portrait -- the portrait her school district has now said they won't print in the school yearbook.

Sturgis' mom, Vanessa Rodriguez, told the Clarion-Ledger that she was told her daughter's picture will not appear in the yearbook because of her choice of clothing. Considering the yearbook is for the kids -- rather than the school -- Rodriguez said she can't understand why her daughter can't wear what she wants.

She's the star of Disney's hit series "Wizards of Waverly Place." She's starred in television movies like "Princess Protection Program" and "Another Cinderella Story." She's also a singer, model, Kids' Choice Awards winner and UNICEF spokesperson.

And, now, Selena Gomez can add fashion designer to her ever-growing resume.

The 17-year-old is set to launch Dream Out Loud by Selena Gomez in fall 2010, reported Women's Wear Daily.

"Growing up in Texas, I was sort of close-minded and kind of a tomboy, but as I've traveled, I found such a love of clothes," Gomez told WWD. "It's really always been a dream of mine to have a line."

The report says the line, aimed at teens, will have a pretty, bohemian flavor. Look for tie-dye and denim leggings (or jeggings), floral printed blouses, shrunken blazers, cardigans, hoodies and mini skirts.

A retailer -- and prices -- have yet to be determined, but other teen stars -- including Disney peer Miley Cyrus -- have had success with mass retailers like Wal-Mart.

California Parents Protest Harvey Milk Day

First introduced in 2008, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed the bill last week to create Harvey Milk Day in honor of the first openly gay person to be elected to a high office of a major American city.

According to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle, the newspaper from Milk's adopted hometown, he's just the second California citizen to be awarded such an honor. Milk served as the city's Supervisor.

Last year's movie that won Sean Penn an Academy Award for his portrayal of Milk had increased the pressure on Sacramento to get the bill passed, and gay rights groups have spent the days since Schwarzenegger brandished his pen celebrating.

Not so some parents.

Rachel Campos-Duffy Wants Moms Who Stay Home to Stay Happy, Too

ParentDish columnist and author Rachel Campos-Duffy says she is blessed to be a stay-at-home mom to her five kids, and she wants other women who choose hearth and home over business suit and briefcase to feel the same way.

The phone call that ended Rachel Campos-Duffy's career as a full-time talk-show host also led to an epiphany about motherhood.

When producers from ABC's "The View" called to tell the former MTV "Real World" star they had chosen Elisabeth Hasselbeck as the new permanent member of the daytime talk-fest, Campos-Duffy was devastated.

She recalls the moment in her new book, "Stay Home, Stay Happy: 10 Secrets to Loving At-Home Motherhood."

"That day was also my son's second birthday," she writes. "I lay on the sofa, simultaneously feeling very sorry for myself and feeling very guilty about feeling sorry for myself. It was, after all, Jack's birthday. Consumed with self-pity, I was in no mood to bake a cake."
